This is one collaboration everyone will be keeping their eyes on!
It has just been announced that Rei Kawakubo, the designer for Comme des Garçons is teaming up with French luxury brand Hermès to launch two limited-edition collections of mythical silk carré scarves, with the line being called Comme des Carrés!
The first collection called Noir et Blanc, will feature five scarves with abstract black-and-white designs. It will be sold exclusively in Comme des Garçons stores in Tokyo’s Aoyama neighborhood, New York and Paris.
Six colourful designs that will features geometric elements like giant patchwork, Vichy checks and shirt stripes, makes up the second collection, Couleur. In addition to being available at Comme de Garcons stores in Tokyo, New York and Paris, it will also be available in London’s Kawakubo’s Dover Street Market store.
‘I have always had an immense respect for Hermès’ tradition and artisanal know-how,’ Kawakubo told WWD. ‘During this joint project, rather than being guided by the idea of the scarf as it is worn, I became interested instead in the beautiful ‘artworks’ that the designs on Hermès carrés represent, and I sought to change them by adding elements. By combining them with abstract images, we have transformed the carré and created a unique object.’
Both the collections will hit the stores in February 2013.
