Capuchin monkeys reject unequal pay

The best thing about YouTube is that you really can get almost any kind of information you want there. In this video, a fairness experiment was conducted amongst capuchin monkeys.

The two monkeys were from the same group and were picked to do a simple task. If the monkey gives the facilitator a rock, they get a treat. Initially both were given cucumbers, but the subsequent tasks, one was given cucumber, the other a piece of grape.

Perhaps fundamentally and innately, it is our primal instinct that if we’re the same, we should get equal treatment.
